I consider myself super lucky to have mostly clear skin. However, I have still been falling victim to mask acne lately.
Obviously, we have to wear masks if we are going to stores and salons and places like that, so mask acne is kind of inevitable, especially if you have sensitive skin.
However, there are different products, ingredients and tips you can use and take into consideration that can help you prevent mask acne, as well as fight it when it does arise.
The Ingredients
First things first are the ingredients. I used to be super guilty of buying skincare products just to have them, and not actually taking the ingredients into account.
Checking the ingredients is important, and this applies to all skincare, not just skincare when it comes to fighting acne.
However, since this post is about fighting and preventing acne, some of the ingredients you’ll want to look out for in your skincare products are BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acids), Niacinamide, Retinol, and AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid).
A lot of skincare companies as of lately are opting for no-hide ingredient lists to become more transparent with their customers, making it much easier to find out if any of these ingredients are in the products that you are using.
My Favorite Products
When it comes to products to fight and prevent acne, I have a handful of products that I have been using lately that I absolutely love!
First is the Bliss Clear Genius line, in particular I have been using the Bliss Clear Genius Clarifying Gel Cleanser with BHA + Brazilian Sea Water, and the Clear Genius Clarifying Toner + Serum. I like these products for a number of reasons, not only do they contain ingredients like BHA and they have worked for my skin in getting rid of acne, but they are also super soothing and they don’t dry out my skin, which is a major plus for me!
Next is the Niacinamide Brightening Toner from Good Molecules, this is for sure one of my top toners. This toner is alcohol-free, making it gentle for your skin. In addition to containing niacinamide, which as I mentioned earlier is good for fighting acne, it helps with uneven skin tone, and promotes brightening!
If you’re looking for a good face mask to try out, that also helps with acne, try the GlamGlow Supermud mask! This mask helps to lift impurities from clogged pores, leaving behind smooth skin. The best part about this mask is that it dries fairly quickly, so you don’t have to leave it on for too long. Also, a little of this goes a long way, which is good because this mask tends to be a little pricier. One thing I will say about this mask though is that if you are like me and have dry skin, I wouldn’t use this daily, a few times a week is likely more than enough.
Lastly, a collection of products that I absolutely love is the Retinol Collection from Pixi Beauty, this collection has a cleanser, toner, an AM and PM oil, a moisturizer and an eye cream. These products are great for soothing skin and they help hydrate your skin as well!
Pro Tip: Remember that everyone’s skin reacts differently to different products. So when trying out any new products, only try one new product at a time, that way if you were to have a reaction to something, you will easily be able to pinpoint which product or ingredient it is that your skin is not agreeing with.
Other Tips To Prevent Mask Acne
While these products are all great, there are still a few things you can do to prevent mask acne that involve using products you may already have, or no products at all!
First, be sure to wash your face twice a day. Once in the morning to cleanse your skin of any oil that may have built up over night, and at night to cleanse your skin of makeup, oil and other impurities that built up throughout the day.
Next, don’t wear makeup underneath your mask. No one is going to see underneath there anyway! Not only will this help your skin, but it’ll make getting ready much easier too!
Lastly, make sure the mask you are wearing is clean! Most of us are utilizing reusable masks, which is great! But, DON’T FORGET TO WASH THEM! Remember, you are breathing inside of that mask, which means those masks are filling up with lots of bacteria. So be sure to wash them!! Also, when possible, and while keeping safety in mind, try and opt for one that is a breathable!
So there you have it! Here are my tips and product recommendations for fighting and preventing mask acne. It should be said that I am no esthetician or dermatologist, so take my advice with a grain of salt! I do, however, do lots of research before I recommend products. A great account to follow for more information on skincare products and ingredients is @HelloAvaBeauty on Instagram – they post tons of really useful infographics that talk about skincare.
