What is aromatherapy?
Essentially, it’s an ancient practice that uses the aroma of different things to help you achieve better wellness. It’s believed that certain scents and smells will elicit particular reactions in people. For example, lavender is the most well-known aromatherapy scent. Countless studies have shown that smelling lavender can help calm people down and aid with sleep.
With that in mind, how can you get the benefits of aromatherapy at home? It’s very simple, and it can transform your house into a wonderful place. The aromas will disguise any bad smells as a bonus, but you should also feel a sense of calm or focus depending on what scents you use.
Here are three ideas:
Scented candles
Nowadays, you can find countless scented candles that fill your home with delightful smells. For instance, you could light a lavender candle before bed, letting you drift off with the smell filling the air and calming you down.
Cinnamon is another really great scent that will apparently sharpen your mind and improve concentration. Light a cinnamon candle while working to reap the rewards! Citrus candles can make you feel a bit more energetic, so get a few of these for the morning. Candles are easy to use and can last for a very long time, making them perfect for aromatherapy at home.
Room odorizers
Sometimes referred to as poppers, room odorizers are easy to use at home. It can sometimes be hard to buy poppers online, but you should be able to find a reputable site somewhere. Just check the reviews and you’ll be fine.
Again, similar to your candles, you can pick all sorts of scents depending on your mood and what you’re trying to target. Room odorizers can be really strong, so try to place them somewhere that’s not too close to you. Simply open the top of the container and the smell will waft through your house, giving you the benefits of aromatherapy.
Essential oils
Essential oils are perhaps the most traditional way to use aromatherapy in the home. You can buy these little oils and use them in diffusers to get the scents wafting through the room. Unlike the other two options, essential oils tend to smell more natural as they are often extracted from plants.
They also have more of a medicinal scent to them. You kind of feel like you’re in a relaxing spa as you get all the typical aromas associated with them. The beauty of essential oils is that you can leave them running for as long as you like. So, they’re perhaps best used when going to bed as you can fall asleep without worrying about anything burning – like a candle.
It’s really important to start taking better care of yourself – both physically and mentally. Aromatherapy is fantastic for your mind and is super useful if you’re stressed or anxious. Instead of going to a fancy spa and paying lots of money for this treatment, you can enjoy the benefits at home by using any of the three methods above.
