4 Healthy Snack Ideas You’re Sure To Love

Finding a healthy snack that you can eat on the go, and which provide you with plenty of vitamins and minerals while not adding to your waistline, can be really tricky.

Of course, there are some great healthy snacks available in the store and via subscription, but often, it is better to make your own so you can control exactly what is in them and ensure that you get enough variety.

With that in mind, here are some healthy snack ideas you are sure to love:

Cinnamon and Honey Roasted Walnuts

If you are looking for a snack that is filling, nutritious, and which keeps your sweet tooth happy then you’ll love these very easy-to-make cinnamon and honey roasted walnuts.

In order to make them, simply combine a cup of walnut halves – raw, organic nuts are always going to be healthiest – with a tablespoon of powdered cinnamon and 3 tablespoons of local organic honey. Place in a preheated oven (350° F) and cook until toasted, occasionally stirring. They should be done after between 10 and 30 minutes.

Homemade Granola Bars

Homemade granola bars are another great option because they can easily be popped into your bag and eaten on the go.

In order to make your own healthy granola bars, simply mix oats dried fruit, and peanut butter (runny) with honey until they are well combined. Flatten mixture in a pan and freeze until set. You can then cut them into your preferred bar size and they’ll be good to go.

Banana “Ice Cream”

Ice cream may seem like a really indulgent treat, but you can make it a whole lot healthier by using bananas instead of sugar and milk/cream. Simply chop a handful of bananas into thin slices spread them out on a baking tray (lined with parchment paper) and freeze.

Once they are completely frozen, blend at high speed until they reach the consistency of ice cream. If you would like to, you can add vanilla extract, a little cocoa powder, or even your favorite berries to give the ice cream a different flavor. It doesn’t get simpler or healthier than that!

Vegetable Chips

Potato chips are a favorite snack of many but they are high in calories and quite greasy, not to mention the fact they are not the most nutritious option. Luckily, you can create a much healthier version of your favorite snack using a wide range of veggies such as beetroot and parsnip.

Simply slice your preferred root vegetables as thin as possible (you will need around 300 grams) and toss them in 2 tablespoons of olive oil a little sea salt and any other flavorings (herbs, spices) that you would like. Then, bake in the oven at 350° F for 5- 8 minutes, bearing in mind that some veggies will cook faster than others, so you may want to keep an eye on them. Once they’re done, let them cool on a rack before serving with homemade hummus dip or storing for later.

Enjoy these healthy snacks!
